Wearing my green and blue and my Donate Life Donor Family pin to honor my sister Aimee!

My Story

My sister, Aimee, was 38 years old when she had a massive stroke that left her in a rare permanent condition known as “locked-in syndrome.” She was completely paralyzed and could not move or speak. Her only means of communication was by the blinking of her eyes. When asked if she wanted to continue to live her life hooked up to a ventilator in her condition, she closed her eyes to say “No.” When asked to close her eyes if she wanted to be an organ donor, she did so immediately. Aimee saved three lives the day she died. Her kidneys went to two men in their early twenties and her liver to a 42-year-old woman.
