National Donate Life Registry

Donate Life America manages the National Donate Life Registry. Registering your decision to be an organ donor in the National Donate Life Registry ensures your donor registration travels with you, no matter where you live or move across the country.
When you register in the National Donate Life Registry, you are registering to be an organ, eye and tissue donor for the purpose of saving and healing lives through transplantation.
There are currently more than 10 million donor registrations in the National Donate Life Registry.

Why register your decision to be a donor?

By registering your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor in the National Donate Life Registry, you are helping to save lives and give hope to the more than 100,000 people in the United States currently waiting for lifesaving organ transplants. Thousands more people are in need of tissue or corneal transplants to restore health. One donor can save and heal more than 75 lives.

“After his death, Cameron left us the first of many blessings – he had taken all appropriate steps to be an organ, eye and tissue donor. His dad and I took comfort in knowing we were upholding his decision to give the gift of life to others.” – Lori, donor mom

How it Works

You can register in the National Donate Life Registry at RegisterMe.org, or in your iPhone Health App.

Any adult age 18 or older can register to be an organ, eye and tissue donor – regardless of age or medical history. 15-17 year olds can register their intent to be organ, eye and tissue donors in the National Donate Life Registry. However, until they are 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian makes the final donation decision. If registering in the National Donate Life Registry through iPhone, you must be 18 years or older.

Already registered? You can log into your National Donate Life Registry donor record at RegisterMe.org at any time to:

  • Opt in to also donate for research, and link any specific research programs you are signed up with, e.g., brain donation
  • Update your donor profile, e.g. change your address if you move
  • Specify any donation preferences
  • Create a personal campaign page to encourage your friends and community to register to be donors
  • Print a document of gift if you would like to keep a hard copy of your donor record with your end-of-life documents

Your privacy is important. We work to make sure personal data is safe, secure and protected. Donate Life America may disclose registration information to other entities, such as recovery agencies, solely for the purpose of recognizing and acting on your donation decision at the time of your death.

Background

The National Donate Life Registry was launched in 2015 with the goal of making donor registration an easy, secure and mobile-friendly process across the nation. Having a national registry allows Donate Life America to work with national partners like Apple and Walgreens to bring the donor registration opportunity to you where you are – on your smart phone, in your pharmacy app, etc.

FAQs

For most states, they are two separate registries*:

  • The National Donate Life Registry at RegisterMe.org.
  • Your state donor registry can be found by contacting your Donate Life State Team. If you registered at your local DMV, your donor registration is in your state donor registry.

Both your state donor registry and the National Donate Life Registry are checked by donation professionals at the time of your death. The most recent donor registration is honored as your legal document of gift.

*MS and AL use the National Donate Life Registry as their registry provider; donor registrations from local driver license partners (DPS, DMV) are uploaded to the National Donate Life Registry

Donate Life America (DLA) saw the need for a National Registry when several national partners approached DLA about promoting donation on a national level. The National Donate Life Registry was created to optimize these national partnership opportunities, to be mobile friendly, and to ensure that potential registrants had an effective and easy way to register their donation decision.

You can register in both, if you desire to do so. If you are registered in your state donor registry, you can still register your donation decision in the National Donate Life Registry at RegisterMe.org or in your iPhone Health App. It takes less than a minute and does not conflict with the state donor registry. Your national registration will travel with you across state lines. Your state donor registry and the National Donate Life Registry will be checked online by donation professionals at the time of your death. The most recent donor registration is honored as your legal document of gift.

If you registered in the National Donate Life Registry, you can access your donor record by tapping/clicking on the “Edit Registration” button at RegisterMe.org. You will be asked to enter a few key data fields (e.g., name, address) to log in to your donor record. When in your donor record, you can update your address, add research as a donation option, and list out any donation preferences you may wish to add.
